Cases and Materials on Family Wealth Management
Traditional classes on estate planning often focus primarily on wills, trusts, and federal taxation. However, in view of the uncertain future and increasingly narrow reach of the federal estate tax, many teachers and students are interested in expanding course coverage to deal with a range of other issues relating to family wealth management. This new book responds to that interest, and provides an important and highly practical tool for teachers and students interested in the planning and management of personal and family finances.
This is the first set of teaching materials to address a comprehensive range of issues concerning the building and management of individual and family wealth. It is intended to help students attain a basic level of financial literacy as well as a practical understanding of various topics that they will need to understand in advising clients and in planning their own financial futures. The book covers financial investing, property, income taxation, and estate and gift taxation as well as home ownership, higher education, life and disability insurance, retirement plans, elder law, and debtor-creditor transactions. Each of these topics is addressed in a separate chapter authored by a pre-eminent scholar in the field. In addition to Professors Turnier and McCouch, contributors include: Patricia Cain (University of Iowa); David Epstein (Southern Methodist University); Robert Jerry (University of Florida); Richard Kaplan (University of Illinois);
Michael Roberts (Harvard Business School); and Norman Stein (University of Alabama).
